Choose laminating machine
Choosing between an office laminator or a home laminator depends on a variety of factors. How often you laminate and the specific lamination tasks you perform determine which machine is best for you.
know your usage
While a thermal laminator designed for frequent use may be best for busy offices, less expensive home machines may be the best option for occasional use.
Occasional use - a few times a month at home, school or office - Recommended laminators
Moderate use - a few times a week at school or in the office - Recommended laminator
Frequent use - Everyday school or office use - Recommended laminators
Know the dimensions of your laminated files
If your bag laminator is used primarily for small to medium-sized documents, such as recipe cards, ID labels, or letter-sized laminations, then a smaller entrance width will suffice. Larger files will require a laminator with a larger entrance width.
Small to Medium - Up to 8.5” Documentation - Recommended Laminators
Small/Medium/Large - Up to 12” Documentation - Recommended Laminators
Understand how often laminated files are processed
Since laminate bags are designed to protect documents, the more frequently documents are handled, the thicker the laminate required. Make sure your laminator is designed to handle the correct laminate bag thickness.
Minimum Processing - 3M - Recommended Laminator
Moderate Processing - 5mil - Recommended Laminator
Frequent processing - 7-10 million cycles - Recommended laminator
Know your temperature needs
In many cases, hot laminators can also be used for cold lamination, if the machine has that feature option. Cold mounting is sometimes used for sensitive documents, such as photographs. If you are only doing cold lamination, use self-adhesive laminate without a laminator. However, laminators, even with cold processing, provide the best quality. Thermal lamination is the most common temperature use as it provides maximum durability and clarity. If you use both heat and cold, look for a laminator that offers two temperature settings.
